Registration for the 25th Bordeaux Marathon (Marathon du Medoc) is Here!!

Ok, the time has come…registration for the 25th Bordeaux Marathon (Marathon du Medoc) is finally here! I received an e-mail yesterday stating the registration forms would be available on the Marathon du Medoc’s website tomorrow (Feb 16th, 2009).

Check it out at: www.marathondumedoc.com

bordeaux-marathonI won’t be going this year…maybe next year? I made a “pact” with a good friend (who lives in Bordeaux) that I would attempt to run again in 2009 – that was 2 years ago…man, how time flies when you are not preparing!!

If you are considering participating in the Bordeaux Marathon, DO IT! It is a wonderfully unique experience – imagine a marathon that traverses some of the best and most beautiful chateaux and vineyards in the world.

  1. Greetings! I have been dying to run this marathon since I read a hilarious article about it in Food and Wine 5 or so years ago. The timing hasn’t been right, so I decided “forty for forty” after giving birth last year… 40 kilometers for 40 years!

I’m registered – I think!- and am now trying to find a place to stay. Any suggestions for the financially strapped travelers? I’ve emailed a few B&B’s near Pauillac. We’ll probably stay a few nights in Bordeaux and a few near the race.

    Cheers!

    • Jennifer, thanks for your note. Chris summarized our experience well in his reply. One thing, if you are going to the area for more than 3 or 4 days, you may consider looking for an apartment to rent. I have done that in prior trips and am about to Poland where I rented an apartment for 6 days. It can be a much cheaper route plus you have other conveniences that a hotel does not offer. Usually, they require a minimum number of days for the rental but 3 or 4 seem typical in my experience. I am sure there are a few sites out there to help with that. I am using http://www.vrbo.com for this upcoming trip. Maybe that could be a viable option for you. You are going to have a blast and congratulations on taking the step! You will have to let us know how it goes!

      Bon chance!

  2. Hi Jennifer! Congrats on getting into the marathon. It can actually be difficult to register as they only allow a certain number of non French participants. You’re going to have a blast!

In terms of accomodation, we had a tough time finding inexpensive accomodation…and we ended up staying pretty far away…

Are you planning to go to Bordeaux ahead of time? If so, you could probably visit the tourist bureau of any of the small towns in the medoc (e.g., St. Julien, etc) for accomodations.

Also, if the B%Bs you contacted do not have accomodation, ask them if they could suggest someone who has availabiliy…

If you find a cheap place near the race, please let us know! Meanwhile, I will dig through my notes and see if I can come up with any additional suggestions.

By the way, what is your costume???

    Chris
