28 years ago, I served as the Envoy to the delegation from #Chile to the 1996 Olympic Games in my hometown of #Atlanta. I helped back in 1989 and 1990 to win the bid as a college student at @georgiatech, the proposed (and actual) site of the Olympic Village. Anyway, one of the perks of the job was to walk halfway with the delegation during the Parade of Nations at the Opening Ceremonies! Back then, unfortunately, there were no Smartphones and none of us carried our SLRs for the 6-hr ordeal (wait time, Ceremony time, and post Ceremony) so the photos lack the quality I would want. No matter, the memories are wonderful!

When your water-hiking sandals begin to fall apart... no fault of my @keen sandals, they served me well across many continents. I just used and abused them until the bitter end and, even then, they hung with me until the walk on The Narrows at #Zion NP was done 8.5 hrs later. Long live #ducttape! One of the great hikes in @canyonlandsnps was Murphy Trail. There are different options and distances but, having already completed a #hike earlier, we opted for the 4.5 mile round-trip down into the canyon. Wherever you see a photo with #rocks, yea, that was the trail (reminded me of Jotunheimen in 🇳🇴 , little bit!). It was a hot day for sure but we took good care of ourselves. The 1st photo is part of the way down and you are looking directly at the way down! The 2nd photo is not quote from the top but already maybe 1/4th of the way down. An unplanned stop in the #Utah #hiking itinerary was Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. We opted to hike the slot canyon at Willis Creek. Fun spot and an easy hike day. @visitutah #outdoors #adventure #alltrails

My favorite #hike in the Mighty Five National Parks was Angel's Landing in Zion National Park . It required applying, via a lottery, for a permit to get past Scout Overlook to enter the steep and chained trail up to a magnificent viewpoint. The drop from either side was about 1,200 feet - not for the faint of heart. I found it exhilarating (and safe). I love the majestic beauty of our country, and thank all staff at National and State parks across the country who keep these places safe and available for us!
