Ideas for Paris Travel with Pre-Teen Kids
More Details: Ideas for Paris Travel with Pre-Teen KidsA friend asked me what to do in Paris as she was going with her kids for a week or so. I do not have kids but I was one once and that, coupled with the fact that I have stayed at a Holiday Inn, fully makes me an expert at recommending stuff for kids.…

Photo of the Week – The Alps of Transylvania
More Details: Photo of the Week – The Alps of TransylvaniaThis scene was what we were rewarded with after arriving at the Cabana Curmatura in the Transylvanian Alps in Romania and hiking on for another hour. I dream of returning to amazing Transylvania. Too bad people’s only notion of it is the legend of Dracula: there is SO much to enjoy and explore there!

The Timeless Capitals: Rome, Athens, Cairo
More Details: The Timeless Capitals: Rome, Athens, CairoI have traveled to a good bunch of countries and hope to add more over time. Most of the time, that means I have visited their capital cities even if briefly. Rare is the case where I have not visited a capital city of a country I have been to. Honduras, Mexico and the Dominican…

The Foshay Tower: A View from Above in Minneapolis
More Details: The Foshay Tower: A View from Above in MinneapolisWhenever I go to a new town, I seek to take a peek at it from a good vantage point. That usually means a climb or a ride up somewhere (read about my favorite “climbs” in Europe). When I recently went to Minneapolis, I asked where could I go for a view from above. The…

Photo of the Week – Color in a Bowl
More Details: Photo of the Week – Color in a BowlWhile not a big shopper here, sometimes I do stop to take a look at the arts and crafts made in the places I visit – usually hoping that something unusual catches my eye: either for a purchase or a picture. During my trip to Jordan I stopped at a store that had plenty to…

City Life – Street Scenes of Stockholm
More Details: City Life – Street Scenes of StockholmI wrote about Stockholm being a great city to visit in summer time (as probably any part of Sweden!). As I said then, it is likely a charming city well-worth visiting any time of the year. But summertime not only offers warmth and longer daylight hours. It offers better opportunities to observe life happen as…

Photo of the Week – The Metropolitain in Paris (aka: the “metro”)
More Details: Photo of the Week – The Metropolitain in Paris (aka: the “metro”)I enjoyed my time in Paris when I lived there for 6 months and I enjoy it every time I go back whether for a day layover or a few days. These photos, taken during one of my brief layovers there, are of two entrances to the Paris metro at the Pigalle station. I find…

A Short Stop in a Fine Town: Limoges, France
More Details: A Short Stop in a Fine Town: Limoges, FranceThe town of Limoges, in France’s center (west-ish), is well known for the fine porcelain that bears the same name. An old town (it was founded around 50 B.C. by -guess who- the Romans), it sits in the region of Limousin, sort of east and north from the Bordeaux region. In fact, we stopped in…

Photo of the Week – The Basilica of a Tiny State (NOT The Vatican!)
More Details: Photo of the Week – The Basilica of a Tiny State (NOT The Vatican!)The tiny state of San Marino, nestled in the midst of Italy, is supposedly one of the world’s oldest republics. The Basilica of San Marino, though from the 1830s, sits on the site where a church has existed since the 4th century.

2013: A Year in Food and Beverages
More Details: 2013: A Year in Food and BeveragesI traveled a good bit this year for both business and pleasure. As with most travel, eating out plays and essential part of the experience, as do the places at which I stay. This year offered me some memorable experiences in both areas. Here I take a quick look back at the food and beverages…

Photo of the Week – A Cross in the Desert
More Details: Photo of the Week – A Cross in the DesertAs I visited the desert of Atacama in Chile‘s north, it was neat to visit small towns and villages in the area. On the way back from the Geysers del Tatio, we stopped at a village called Machuca. Atop some of the houses were small crosses. Weather-worn crosses that reflected the faith of the locals.
